URDT-I graduands ready for confirmation as graduates by the Director of Education and Training in Bundibugyo district on 13th September 2022.
Uganda Rural Development and Training Institute (URDT-I) conducted graduation Ceremonies for 9,933 young people trained under the Satellite Approach using the principle of Learn Work and Earn. The graduation ceremonies were launched at URDT main Campus in Kagadi District on 3rd September,2022 and thereafter to other Districts: Kibaale, Kakumiro, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, NtorokoBundibugyo, Kasese, Kamwenge, Kikuube, Buliisa, Masindi, Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, Kasanda, Mityana, Mubende, Kyegegwa and Kyaka II refugee settlement in Kyegegwa District climaxed the ceremonies on the 30th September 2022.
Uganda Rural Development and Training Institute has so far trained 19,075 young people using Artisans and model Agribusiness practitioners in communities who are hands on specialists in the sectors of Agriculture, Tourism and Construction. Amongst the young people trained,11471 completed the training while 7,604 will complete this October 2022. URDT-I in partnership with Mastercard Foundation is targeting to train 70,000 young people who are school drop outs; 70% female of whom 80% will graduate as entrepreneurs while 20% be employed by others.
During the graduation ceremonies, there was awarding of the Directorate of Industrial Training Certificates to the graduates who were assessed as quality assurance for the three months training in various occupations. A total of 5,900 young people attained their DIT certificates on the graduation days for their districts respectively.
URDT-I graduations were also a platform for the 30 best entrepreneurship competitors in 13 Districts: 6 mechanics, 3 poultry farmers, 5 tailors, 7 hair dressers, 2 pig farmers, 1 stockist, 1 builder, 1 electrician, 1 leather designer, 1 bee keeper,1 carpenter and 1 welder. These received a cheque each of UGX. 500,000 shillings to invest in their businesses.
On the same note, the graduation ceremonies were enriched with exhibitions of craft work, shoe making, weaving, welding, tailoring, electricity wiring, fish products, hairdressing, carpentry, tree seedlings and cuttings to mention but a few.
